ADAS bills itself as the "UK's largest independent provider of environmental consultancy, rural development services and policy advice". Since privatisation, the group has repositioned itself away from its traditional agricultural markets, divesting non-core interests. Environmental consultancy now represents the group's primary activity with around 60% of its staff engaged in this area. ADAS’ heritage as a government advisory body has resulted in strong ties with public sector client organisations, although it has had some success in recent years broadening the customer base in corporate market sectors. Wholly-owned business units Envar (waste) and Cambridge Environmental Assessments (chemicals risk) also offer specialist consulting advice.
